Welcome to the School of Liberal Arts. Whether you are studying the arts, the humanities, or the social sciences, we offer challenging courses taught by highly qualified faculty.
The traditional role of the liberal arts is to prepare one for the autonomy of adulthood and citizenship. We understand, however, that most students and their families also see higher education as a path to a fulfilling career. It is our conviction that a successful career awaits people who can think critically, solve problems creatively, work cooperatively in teams, and communicate well through the written and spoken word. We commit ourselves to imparting these skills not only to students who pursue degrees in the liberal arts, but also to the many other students who take our courses on their way to degrees in other disciplines.
The School of Liberal Arts consists of twelve academic departments with approximately 200 faculty and staff who serve about 3000 majors plus an equal number of non-majors. We offer three associate, 24 baccalaureate, and seven masters programs that together confer about 700 degrees a year. Liberal Arts also administers Edinboro University in Erie - The Porreco Center, which delivers courses and programs for students who live off campus. Its academic offerings include evening, weekend, and online classes.
