Yes, all first-year students are required to attend orientation to become acclimated to the University and to begin to make positive connections with University resources.
WHAT HAPPENS AT ORIENTATION?
New students participate in placement testing for math and English to ensure that they are registered for the appropriate courses. Students meet with faculty and academic leaders who provide information about degree programs and expectations. Students meet the orientation staff and spend time learning about campus life and activities. In addition, students get their ID card, learn about campus resources and opportunities and visit the campus bookstore.
Parents and family members who attend orientation spend part of their day with the student, when academic expectations are being addressed. Family sessions occur throughout the day to introduce faculty and staff who interact with students outside of the classroom. Representatives from housing, student health and financial aid are among the participants.
WHEN WILL I GET MY SCHEDULE?

WHY IS THERE A FEE FOR ORIENTATION?
The costs associated with the orientation program are not included in the student's tuition and other fees. Therefore, the University must charge a nominal fee to cover the operational expenses for the program. All print materials and publications, student program staff, meals and refreshments are included in the fee. For students, the fees associated with placement testing and the student ID card are also included. The student fee is a mandatory University fee, assessed of all first-year students regardless of participation in an orientation event. For family members, the fee covers some of the program cost and meals.
IS THERE A PARENTS' PROGRAM AT ORIENTATION?
Yes, and first-year students are encouraged to bring family members if possible. Family members who participate are better prepared to understand how to support their student's success and to access the resources on campus.
