ATTENTION: This information only applies to creating and editing non-departmental pages such as your individual pages. Any web page that is part of the University web page hierarchy such as departmental pages or web pages about sponsored University events must be part of the dotCMS Content Management System. To obtain more information about the dotCMS system and creating pages within this system please contact Chris Falzone (cfalzone@edinboro.edu) at extension 1080.
How do I edit my pages?
First, you need to either create a new HTML file or download your existing HTML file from your individual web site. Almost any FTP-capable program should work (Including Internet Explorer) to upload or download your files. The host name is webstorage.edinboro.edu. Please use your full email address(username@edinboro.edu) as your username as well as your email/network password to access the FTP site. Once you have successfully connected to your web space, you can either download an existing file or upload a new file to this site using the interface of whatever FTP application you have chosen. Normally this is a drag and drop process. Note: if you are downloading existing files to edit or creating new html files we recommend that you use the free Nvu open source HTML editor application. This can be found at the http://nvudev.com/download.php website. Although at this time (Spring 2008), Technology and Communications is not fully ready to support the Nvu application, we feel that this application is easy to learn and it is free so in time we will have staff on board who have some experience using it who will be able to provide support.
FTP is no longer your only option. While using the campus network (this does not include public ports or Residence Hall rooms), you can edit the pages directly via a shared folder. Simply click Start, Run, then enter the UNC path \\eup\dfs\webstorage\username. This will take you directly to your files. If you are making major changes, you might wish to save a local copy first just in case you make a mistake.
Do I have more space?
Do my webpages still affect my e-mail?
In the past, students had a tiny 8MB quota (and employees had only ~50MB) in which both your e-mail and webpages had to fit, as well as a 100MB quota for your "S:\" or "network drive". Everyone's e-mail quota is now at least 150MB, and is completely separate from your webpages. Your webpages now share quota with your "S:\" drive. So, if you have 100MB available on your S: drive, you could use 40MB for file storage and 60MB for web storage-- or any combination you choose. (Note: although they share a quota, the contents of your S:\ drive are not visible via the web.)
Has my web address changed?
What about people that have my old address??
Yes, your web address has changed. In the past it was http://www.edinboro.edu/~username. Unfortunately, it was not reasonable to maintain that structure when we migrated the space. Your new web address is http://users.edinboro.edu/username. We do realize that people you don't even know about may have your web address, and you have no way to tell them about the change. No Problem! We have implemented an "intelligent" page-not-found process that will notify a person trying to reach the old web address that the files have moved, and automatically take them there.
