Ethernet Configuration for Windows Vista
- Be sure you are logged into the computer as an administrator.
- Click on the Start Bubble.
- Click on CONTROL PANEL.
- Click on NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER.
- In the left column click on MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS.
- Right click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTIONS and select PROPERTIES.
- On the GENERAL tab, double-click INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) or highlight it and select properties.
- Select the GENERAL Tab of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
- Make sure the radio buttons for Obtain an IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically are both selected and click OK.
Ethernet Configuration for Windows XP
- Be sure you are logged into the computer as an administrator.
- Close all applications
- Click START and then CONTROL PANEL.
- Click NETWORK AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS.
- Click NETWORK CONNECTION.
- Double-click the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION icon.
- The Local Area Connection status window will appear.
- Click on PROPERTIES.
- On the GENERAL tab, double-click INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) or highlight it and select properties.
- Select the GENERAL Tab of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
- Make sure the radio buttons for Obtain an IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically are both selected and click OK.
Ethernet Configuration for Windows 2000
Before configuring your computer, please be sure that you have the operating system CD in the event you are prompted to install files. This page assumes that the Ethernet card is installed in the computer. Note: File and Printer sharing are not supported.
To configure your computer settings with DHCP for Windows 2000 operating systems:
- Close all applications.
- Click START button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
- Select SETTINGS and click NETWORK AND DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS.
- Right-click LOCAL AREA NETWORK.
- Click PROPERTIES.
- Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click PROPERTIES.
- Select the option to Obtain an IP Address Automatically.
- Select the option to Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again.
Ethernet configuration for Mac OS X
Acquiring a new/clean copy of the TCP/IP Preferences folder (optional)
The procedure involves removing the TCP/IP Preferences folder. If you wish to keep a copy of the old TCP/IP preferences, you should copy them to another folder other than the Preferences folder or to a disk.
- Close all windows.
- Click on the MACINTOSH HARD DRIVE.
- Browse to the SYSTEM FOLDER and to PREFERENCES.
- Find the TCP/IP PREFERENCES and drag them to the trash.
- Close all windows.
- When the TCP/IP settings are open again, a new preferences folder is automatically created.
Configure new TCP/IP settings.
- Click on the Apple Menu
- Click SYSTEM PREFERENCES
- Select the NETWORK icon.
- In the Network window, set LOCATION field to automatic.
- The SHOW field should be set to Built-in Ethernet.
- The CONFIGURE field should be set to Using DHCP (Do not use DHCP with fixed IP address).
- The DHCP Client ID field should be blank.
- Everything else should be blank.
- Save changes and close window.
If you do not see Built-In Ethernet in the show field
- Select Active Network Ports from the show field.
- Select Built-in Ethernet.
- Click Apply Now
- If Built-in Ethernet is not in window, select New.
- A drop-down menu will appear.
- From the drop-down list, select Built-in Ethernet.
- Click OK.
