- A Guide to Installing Sophos
**Important INFORMATION**
Before installing Sophos you should remove any existing Anti-virus software from your machine. Antivirus programs you may see are: Norton/Symantec, McAfee, AVG Free, Panda, Kaspersky, NOD32, Windows One Care, etc.
Anti-Spyware/Malware applications such as Spybot S&D, Windows Defender, Spydoctor, Hitman Pro do not need to be removed.

The following is a step by step guide to help you with the installation of Sophos Anti-virus software and updates. Provided are brief instructions to help you through the installation process.

Step 1: Click on the appropriate link above to start the download process.
Step 2: You will be asked for a username and password, enter your full edinboro email address and password and click OK to proceed.
Step 3: The next window you will see is the Sophos Download message, click Run to begin the installation or choose Save to save the file to your desktop. If you choose to save the file to your desktop you will need to click on the blue shield on your desktop to proceed with the installation. This step may take a few minutes to complete.
Step 4: A Security screen will pop up to ask you if you would like to run this software; Select RUN.
Step 5: Next is the Sophos installer screen, click INSTALL to proceed. Sophos will begin extracting to your machine.
Step 6: Once Sophos has been extracted the Welcome screen will appear, click NEXT to proceed.
Step 7: The License Agreement screen will appear, select the I Accept option and click NEXT to proceed.
Step 8: The destination folder will now appear, keep the default location and click NEXT to continue.
Step 9: The next window that will appear is the Update Source window. In the Address window, replace the word "Sophos" with http://medusa2.eup.edinboro.edu/sophos/esxp/ for windows and http://medusa2.eup.edinboro.edu/sophos/esosx/ for Macs. In the username window enter you full Edinboro email address and in the password window enter your email password you will need to confirm the password so enter your password again in the confirm password window. The password will appear ****** in the window and click NEXT to continue.
Step 10: The next screen is the optional Sophos Firewall option, DO NOT check the box and click Next to proceed.
Step 11: The next screen is the option to remove other Anti-virus applications from you machine, leave the box checked and click NEXT to proceed.
Step 12: Sophos is now ready to be installed, click NEXT to proceed.
Step 13: You are now done installing Sophos Anti-virus, click FINISH to continue.
Step 14: You will notice a new blue icon in the system tray, which is the Sophos Shield.
Step 15: You may need to run Sophos updating to get the program up-to-date: right click on the shield and select UPDATE NOW.
