Telephone Troubleshooting

I have no dialtone or my connection is not good

Is the phone plugged into the proper outlet?

All student rooms have new wiring and old wiring outlets.  Make sure the phone is plugged into the the outlet that contains the blue and yellow outlets.  If you live in Rose Hall, make sure the phone is plugged into the white outlet that is the furthest to the right.

Is it a phone or line cord problem?

Try to eliminate the telephone as the problem.  Try plugging a different telephone into your outlet and see if it works.  Try plugging your telephone into an outlet in another student's room that you know is working and see if it works there.

Try to eliminate the line cord as the problem.  Try another line cord that you know is good.

Note:  If the phone not working is cordless, make sure the phone is fully charged.

Is it a wiring or University PBX problem?

If you have determined that the problem is not with your telephone then check to see if other students in the area have telephone service.  If other students have service then the problem may be a wiring problem with outlet in your room.
