Mission Statement
The Office of Public Relations supports the mission, goals and objectives of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania by collecting, producing and disseminating news and other information in a variety of formats to promote University presence, visibility, image, understanding and support among internal and external constituencies.
The purposes of the Office of Public Relations are:
- To publicize - through internal and external efforts - institutional and individual achievements, past, present and those planned for the future.
- To support and assist in the strategic coordination of the University President's internal and external community relations and communication efforts to ensure maximum benefit from his community involvement.
- To strategically utilize public relations tools to inform the public about University activities, and the efforts and accomplishments of faculty, administration, staff, students, alumni, trustees and friends to achieve a positive and recurring presence in local, regional, national, campus and special print medium outlets.
- To strategically ensure the University's presence in the region and beyond through sponsorships of events and activities.
- To ensure that official messages identifiable with Edinboro University, regardless of format, are strategic and consistent in design, content, appearance, clarity, accuracy, integrity and overall quality.
- To prepare special communications to support academic, admissions, alumni, development, athletic, student life, special events and cultural programs, and others as directed.
- To develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with the media, higher education press, Office of the Chancellor, alumni, trustees, business and community leaders, elected and appointed officials, on-campus clients and other stakeholders to serve the University's mission and support University and State System goals and objectives, plans, priorities and aspirations.
Goals
Guiding Goal: To positively and strategically position the name, image and values of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania within the framework of an integrated communications plan.
The specific initiatives and supporting activities for the Office of Public Relations are:
- To generate innovative and regular news opportunities for regional media focusing on academic programs, academic reputation, and faculty and student efforts and accomplishments.
- To strategically generate news opportunities for higher education, national, and specialized media.
- To maximize Presidential communication and community relations efforts.
- To strategically develop and implement publicity events and specialized activities.
- To regularly communicate and interact with the campus community through the Weekly Messenger and web page services.
- To continually publicize student achievements through scholarship, dean's list, and graduation announcements.
- To establish the University's presence, image and reputation in the northwestern Pennsylvania community and beyond through an extensive sponsorship program.
- To support University-wide events and activities through publicity, writing and photographic services.
