News and Announcements
- Student Volunteers Needed - The Sexual Violence Victim Advocate Program is a peer education program designed to increase campus awareness about sexual violence and its impact on men and women through comprehensive and innovative education. Advocates are primarily Edinboro University students, but faculty and staff are also welcome to participate. Training is required and will be offered on campus in September. - Attention Students:
- E- REG (ELECTRONIC REGISTRATION) FOR Fall 2008 is a secure website where students will enter and indicate that they will attend classes in the upcoming semester. E-REG opens Tuesday, August 19th before classes begin and ends at midnight on Monday September 1st. This lets us know if a student is "really here". Students can access this site anywhere they have an internet connection. It is critical that students visit the E-REG site. Access the site by typing in "EREG" in the keyword search on the University home page to record your intention to attend classes this 2008 fall semester.

FIRST DAY ATTENDANCE FOR Fall 2008: Students must attend classes on the first class day. Faculty will take attendance and report daily any student marked as a "non-attend" will be removed from the class, freeing seats for other students during the add period. It is imperative that you attend classes and that you make sure your instructor knows that you are present in class.

- In loving memory of Melanie Lewis, family, friends and Edinboro colleagues have established a scholarship in her honor. "Mel" as she was affectionately known by many, served as Director of Graduate Admissions and was an employee of Edinboro University for over 19 years. She is remembered for her love of family and giving spirit. She touched the lives of many who will always remember her acts of kindness. Gifts to the Melanie Lewis Memorial Scholarship may be made to the Development Office, Alumni House, Edinboro, PA 16444, on-line or by contacting (814) 732-1778.
- To improve the security of EUPnet, effective August 1, 2008 Sophos will be the only Anti-Virus program supported on Edinboro University's Networks. This includes the residence hall network, EUP campus network and "SCOTAIR" wireless network. Sophos is used by all University pc's and is being provided free of charge to all valid EUP account holders. In order to download your free copy go to: http://www.edinboro.edu/ keyword: sophos antivirus. If you already have Sophos installed on your personal machine it will still be necessary to install the new version and reconfigure the application according to the instructions. For assistance feel free to stop in to the Technology Help Center in Ross Hall or call one of our technicians at 814-732-2111. - The Keyword Search field on http://www.edinboro.edu/ was recently upgraded to a full-fledged search of the Edinboro University website. While the keywords will still exist and provide access to your favorite pages on our website, searches will occur in both our keyword database and the web pages without any additional steps.
If you use keywords now, you may continue to use them. If you would like to search the University website for any word or phrase, simply enter it into the Search box, which has been renamed "Search" from the previous "Keyword Search". Your term will automatically be checked against both our keyword database and the content of the University web pages, with the results displayed for you by Keyword Results and Google Results. If you need additional information or instructions, click on the "About Keywords/Search" link that is now available below the Search box. You may need to refresh your browser window once to have this new feature loaded.

- Attention Faculty, Staff and Alumni: If you have written a book in 2008 the Marketing and Alumni Office would like to hear from you. We are planning an upcoming story in the Edinboro News that will feature books written by Edinboro faculty, staff and alumns. Please email the details, including title, price, publisher and a short (1-2 paragraph) synopsis of the book. Send information to mgoellner@edinboro.edu.

- State Employee Assistance Program (SEAP) - Summer is just around the corner and this month's SEAP article, "Life Balance: Healthy matters to keep in mind," provides timely advice designed to help make your family vacation more fun and less stressful. - The Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Erie Playhouse are together offering Edinboro University employees "Erie Playhouse Educators Night" season tickets at a cost of $112. The discounted season tickets are for Wednesday evening performance dates. Some restrictions apply. - Mexico Study Abroad, December 28, 2008 - January 9, 2009. One class is offered: LAS590 Gender, Language and Cultural Images instructed by Dr. Jerra Jenrette, History and Anthropology Department, Professor Amanda Frantz-Mamani, Foreign Languages Department, and Professor Suzanne Winterberger, Art Department. Estimated cost including airfare, hotel and admission to the majority of museums and historic sites visited is $1,900 per student and $2,200 per non-student. Tuition/Fees are not included in this amount. Enrollment is limited. Purple Thistle Award
The Purple Thistle Award is designed to recognize employees for their exceptional work above and beyond the call of duty. Any staff of faculty member can nominate any candidate for his or her exceptional efforts.
